«Maria percorre insieme al Figlio il cammino che porta verso la croce. Procede immersa in una totale ed umana tristezza qual è quella di una madre terrena che deve assistere alla fine del Figlio, e non solo alla fine della sua vita, ma anche dei suoi progetti, delle sue speranze e della sua opera. Maria fa così esperienza di tutto questo, pur sapendo che la missione del Figlio non ha fine.»
