Columbus Day

On October 12, every year, Genoa celebrates its illustrious citizen with a day that, in addition to remembering the figure of Columbus and the discovery of America, testifies to the gratitude to those who have most contributed to keeping the name of the city high in Italy and abroad.
Columbus Day is an anniversary celebrated in many states of America, in Spain and Italy to commemorate the day of Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the New World, October 12, 1492. In Genoa, the event is characterised by various initiatives and the traditional and solemn ceremony, born in the 50s to celebrate the anniversary of the discovery of America, remember the figure of Cristoforo Colombo and testify to the gratitude towards those who have most contributed to keeping the name of the City of Genoa high in Italy and in the world.

Il 12 ottobre, ogni anno, Genova celebra il suo illustre concittadino con una giornata che, oltre a ricordare la figura di Colombo e la scoperta dell’America, testimonia la riconoscenza verso coloro che maggiormente hanno contribuito a tenere alto il nome della città in Italia e all’estero.
Il Giorno di Colombo è una ricorrenza celebrata in molti Stati dell’America, in Spagna e in Italia per commemorare il giorno dell’arrivo di Cristoforo Colombo nel Nuovo Mondo, il 12 ottobre 1492. A Genova, la manifestazione è caratterizzata da diverse iniziative e dalla tradizionale e solenne cerimonia, nata negli anni ’50 per festeggiare l’anniversario della scoperta dell’America, ricordare la figura di Cristoforo Colombo e testimoniare la riconoscenza verso coloro che più hanno contribuito a tenere alto il nome della Città di Genova in Italia e nel mondo.
